Clear Powder Coated Finish for Copper
A Unique Protective Process for the Copper Most of the copper wall fountains and copper floor fountains have this protective powder coat finish. Why? - Copper is a natural substance that is prone to oxidizing. That means that over time, when a copper surface is frequently exposed to the combination of water and air drying, it tends to take on an antique greenish tint called Verdigris. Some people like that look, some people don't. Example - When the water flows down a wall fountain, tabletop fountain or floor fountain, and into the copper basin, or onto the splash guard in a floor fountain, the edges of the copper basin or splash guard (or any nearby copper surface) can get some drops of water on it. If those drops of water sit there, and then evaporate by the air, that process can oxidize that copper surface and slowly create that greenish tint (Verdigris). What Is Powder Coating? - This is a Clear heat-baked finish that is applied to all surfaces of the copper. First of all, it protects the copper from getting that greenish tint. It also protects the beautiful (hand-applied) patina, and allows the copper to maintain its "New" and lustrous look over the years. Maintenance - Even with this protective powder coated finish, there is a bit of maintenance involved, in order to fully protect the copper. Apply Turtle Wax (Hard Shell) every two to three months to the copper surfaces. Also, about once a week, it is a good idea to apply a household furniture polish, like Pledge, to the copper surfaces, with a soft cloth. Try not to let droplets of water accumulate on the copper parts for a long period of time. If you see drops of water, just wipe it away with a soft cloth. NEVER USE COPPER CLEANER, as this may damage your powder coated finish. ENJOY! - So, the Powder Coating process is a very good thing that enormously helps to protect the copper over the years. The bit of maintenance mentioned above is minuscule. And don't stress out over a few drops of water here and there on the copper. If you see it, just wipe it away, but otherwise, RELAX and ENJOY your gorgeous copper water fountain. Many thousands of people are already doing just that. So can you.
