When you install a new garden water fountain it looks splendid and beautiful, but it ages with time and weather and can start losing its charm and beauty. If you neglect taking care of your fountains regularly then murky water flows out of your fountain unevenly. 1. The flow of water from the fountain can be a common problem with fountains. Most fountain owners will experience this problem after running the fountain for sometime or after few months. The first sign you notice in a clogged fountain is the uneven flow of water from the spout. Clean the fountain thoroughly especially the nostrils which spray out water. Outdoor water fountains are most challenging to maintain as it can easily get trapped with foreign materials with strong winds, weather and animal wastes but cleaning them every couple weeks can go a long way in functionality and beauty.
2. Fountain chemicals can help your fountain water look crystal clear and free from bad odor. Water fountains which are affected with lime, calcium and other natural elements can be cleaned with these chemicals to remove the built up calcium from the basin. Tap water which contains high level of calcium affects any water fountain. If you happen to notice slimy substance or white powder on the surface of the fountains basin, then your fountain has been deposited with calcium. It can scale up and become hard to remove in course of time, so regular cleaning of calcium deposit is essential.  To help combat hard water and calcium deposits try a product such as White Scale Control that you simply add to your water regularly.
3. If you have your fountain sitting on an unstable surface it can sink over time or may lean to one side. So have your fountain built on a stable ground that doesn’t sink such as a concrete slab. Flow of water is determined by how the fountain is placed. If it is too late to get it rectified, silicon sealants can be used and it helps to control the flow of water.
4. Filters and skimmers can be used to filter out residue and other particles from the fountain, as they can block the flow of water and affect the efficiency of the fountain. If you happen to grow aquatic plants in your water fountain, then dead plants and leaves have to be removed regularly. Fertilizer tablets can also be used to increase the fertility and productivity of the plant.
